Rose Mirror
Like many explorers today and as a traveling man myself I have come to appreciate iconic details in the various cities and places I visit. As a designer whose interest lies between creating timeless designs that have a contemporary voice whilst being able to sit along side pieces from another era I am inspired when I register something as exquisite as the Rose windows found in ancient cathedrals. The engineering and technology of the day (some dating back 1000 years) allow for mathematically precise patterns with geometric sweeping kaleidoscopic lines made in solid hand carved stone. These delicately traced stone patterns are the framework for these round stained glass windows - like a tattoo each is individual and meaningful to that cathedral, city and place.
I have selected Notre Dame in Paris and Westminster in London for the first 3 Rose Mirrors in a tribute to the great traveller and writer, George Orwell, who wrote the wonderful book - "Down and Out in Paris and London".
